PLUS - THE ART OF MUSIC Art of Music @ December 12 Art Walk: 6-7:45pm, Willow Scrivner @ Beveridge Place Pub in the Morgan Junction.
From the Art of Music: “Willow Scrivner is a Seattle-based artist whose music lingers in a stark, blackly outlined winter landscape with shadowy, whispering instrumentation and fluid melody. Scrivner’s records hover somewhere around folk, but with gothic tinges and bell-like guitars chiming throughout. Her voice, reminiscent of The Sundays’ Harriet Wheeler and Emmylou Harris, is as warm, lilting, and alluring as they come…heartfelt and haunting, shot throughout with a deep, glimmering liquidity. Willow most often performs with guitarist Kevin Wood in the duo, Willow & Wood. Willow and Wood’s music is transcendent: both a study of the geography of place, and the constant search for home. Each of the 11 tracks on the duo’s new album Tornadoes in My Head aches with hope and a broken heart. Those contradictions are at the core of what makes this duo so special. Falling somewhere between indie pop and country, they have created a sound rooted in a West Coast reverb-drenched loneliness, dripping with southern humidity and darkness – and determined to find the magic. Click here to listen to some of Willow’s music.”
4. GET READY FOR WINTER WEATHER! A message from Seattle Department of Transportation:
Winter is here as we saw with last week’s major windstorm. As the rainy season arrives and temperatures drop, the chance for landslides and snow and ice increases. Be prepared with the right supplies, tools for getting around, and if able, help a neighbor in need. Together we can keep people and goods moving.
Visit our winter weather website for all the best information at your fingertips!
Be Prepared: To prepare and assist in your neighborhood, talk to your neighbors to see who may need help during a storm. Make a community plan to ensure that all the sidewalks on the block get shoveled. Be sure to have a shovel and salt ready, or know who to ask if you need a helping hand.
Know Before You Go: See Seattle’s snow plow routes map. During snow events, use this online map to see real-time updates about street conditions and which streets we’ve recently plowed.
Important Bookmarks: Visit the SDOT winter weather webpage for more information about how to get around safely when it snows. Visit King County Metro’s winter guide website for transit information. You can also check out the City of Seattle’s winter storm response website for resources beyond transportation, like home and pet safety, power outages and utilities, and warming shelters.
Last week, we held a snow plow practice to test equipment and ensure our snowplow drivers are familiar with their routes. This training exercise is one example of the work that occurs year-round to prepare for winter storms and ensure our crew members are in good practice. You can read more in our blog post.
You can count on us to respond to winter storms, but we can’t be everywhere at once. It is EVERYONE’S responsibility to clear ice and snow from the sidewalks around their homes and businesses to keep communities safe. It’s not just the law, it’s the right thing to do so that people of all ages and abilities can travel safely following a snowstorm if it becomes necessary.
